METHODOLOGY    


   The
RapiMart Methodology is Innovative Logic’s leading edge data warehouse and business intelligence design and implementation methodology. The RapiMart Methodology is a synthesis of “best of breed” management and technology processes and templates. The theory behind it took over ten years to develop and refine. It is based on the best practices of repeatability, reliability and consistency in solving data integration and business intelligence implementation challenges. It contains the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) components including Key Process Indicator (KPI), Key Process Area (KPA), and the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) areas from Carnegie Mellon University, and the OMG universal meta-data standards. These standards provide for quick, efficient and consistent implementations "out of the box."

   This approach is what makes The
RapiMart Methodology so powerful. It applies the theory in the practice of data warehousing so the customer is left with a maintainable, fully documented and standardized enterprise data warehousing system. The automated generation of the processes, queries and data models provide a powerful combination of timesaving techniques with architecture capable of handling today's business needs such as near real time and batch (Active Data Warehousing), volume (1-10+ terabytes), and XML/Web Services integration.

   The heart of The
RapiMart Methodology is the i-Template modeling architecture. The I-Template provides the RapiMart Methodology with the consistency and architecture it needs to build a scalable enterprise-level data warehousing system. There are several additional storage components defined that can be replicated across platforms, or reside on multiple platforms to handle load and scalability. These components are:

The
RapiMart Methodology provides a repeatable, consistent framework within which our project plans and milestones are organized using a Project Management Institute (PMI) approved template approach. The RapiMart Methodology is sold as a complete project implementation methodology used during our consulting engagements, or separately as a standalone product incorporating a series of components.

Unlike many modern methodologies, Innovative Logic Inc. has taken the extra, and unique, step of turning the "theory" into actual deliverables. The RapiMart Methodology project implementation and process plan took approximately two person years to develop and includes over 200 pages of detailed process descriptions and robust templates that can be used immediately “out of the box.” This toolkit provides you with a complete outline and fill-in-the-blank templates to guide through the entire project lifecycle.
As stated earlier, The
RapiMart Methodology project templates are based on software development principles created by Carnegie Mellon's Software Engineering Institute (SEI), and guidelines of the Project Management Institute (PMI). Both are internationally recognized organizations that set the high-water mark for establishing industry standards and best practices. The RapiMart Methodology is compliant with SEI's Capability Maturity Model (CMM) Level 5 because the entire methodology is documented, standardized, repeatable and integrated.
The
RapiMart Methodology also uses the project management practices espoused by PMI's Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) which is consistent with SEI's principles. As the PMBOK recommends, establishing clear, written project scope, requirements and change control procedures at the beginning of a project, are some of the best ways to lower risk and ensure the best technical solution is being created to address the correct business problem. The project templates include these steps, and many others, so that you have everything you need to easily comply with these guidelines. With our toolkit, you do not have to remember all the steps because we have them already documented for you. If all the templates are used, your project will be virtually self-documenting.
Components
The RapiMart Methodology is organized around 30 software development processes within the six major project phases.
      • Discover – Exploring the project vision, scope, business justification, funding, timeframe, organization, roles and responsibilities, and developing the project charter
      • Direct – Overall project initiation, planning, execution, control and closure (i.e. Project Management)
      • Define – Gathering detailed requirements and drafting the initial architecture
      • Design – Creating data models, mapping specifications, report layouts, meta data specification and other components that fulfill the detailed requirements
      • Develop – Development, testing, and architecture implementation
      • Deploy – Promotion to production, user acceptance, training, application roll-out
